Capture the Moment: Photographic Technology

The Photographic Technology program trains students in the art and science of photography, preparing them for a variety of careers in the professional photographic industry. With hands-on experience and specialized coursework, this program focuses on the techniques and business practices needed to succeed in today’s dynamic visual arts landscape.

What You’ll Learn

Students will explore multiple aspects of professional photography, building skills through comprehensive coursework and real-world practice. Key areas of study include:

  • Camera Systems & Lighting: Master the fundamentals of camera operation and professional lighting techniques.
  • Digital Imaging & Design: Learn to enhance, edit, and design images using industry-standard software.
  • Photographic Processes: Gain expertise in capturing and producing high-quality images for diverse applications.

Where offered, students may choose to specialize in one of the following areas:

This curriculum offers training in photographic techniques and their application in professional photographic disciplines. Where offered, students will receive comprehensive course work in four areas of concentration: Photojournalism, Commercial Photography and Portrait Studio Management.

Special emphasis is placed on developing skills in the following areas: fundamentals of camera systems, lighting, photographic process, digital imaging, design and business practices.

Graduates should qualify for entry level jobs in the diverse photographic industry. Employment opportunities exist in the following areas: commercial photography, photojournalism, biomedical photography, portrait, photographic equipment sales, photographic laboratories, and imagining technologies; dependant upon courses offered and completed.

The Photographic Technology program prepares both future imaging professionals and amateurs alike to become more technically proficient with their cameras and lighting equipment and more creative with their picture taking skills. You can earn an associate degree, certificate, or just take classes. Our instructors are successful professional photographers who are passionate about sharing their knowledge with students of all backgrounds.
