Distance Learning and Open LMS Information

All online students at MTCC are expected to be familiar with Open LMS and Gmail to fully participate in their courses. The Open LMS Orientation provides essential information on navigating the platform, including how to view announcements, access course materials, participate in discussions, check grades, and submit assignments.

• Option 1: Attend a Seated Orientation (BYOD – Bring Your Own Device)
  Dates and times are listed in the “Dates to Remember” document for each semester. Click here to access the document.
• Option 2: Complete the Online Orientation
  Log in to your Open LMS account and complete the Open LMS Student Orientation course.

 User ID Format

Your Username is used for Open LMS, Gmail, and Self-Service. It follows this format:
First initial + Middle initial + Last name + Last 2 digits of your Student ID
Example: Jane Mary Donavan | Student ID: 123456 → jmdonavan56 

• Example of  Email: jmdonavan56@go.mcdowelltech.edu
• Example OpenLMS: jmdonavan56

• Open LMS: You receive an email in your MTCC Gmail with your login and temporary password from "Admin".
  • If you don't see the email with password to LMS - Search "admin"  

• • Forgot your password? 
  • Use the 🔗 Forgotten your username or password? link on the login page.
  • Follow the prompts to reset via your MTCC Gmail.

• Gmail & Self-Service:
  • Use your 8-digit Student ID, adding a zero at the beginning if needed (e.g., 00123456).

Internet Courses (Sections 50–56):
Fully online. You must complete the 10% Attendance Quiz to remain enrolled.

Hybrid Courses (Sections 20–29):
Combination of in-person and online instruction. Online components will be explained by your instructor during the first class meeting.

📅 Course Visibility in Open LMS

Most courses will appear in Open LMS on the first day of the semester after 8:00am or After your first seated class (this is dictated by your instructor)

You may be able to log in to Open LMS early to access the Online Student Orientation Course, but your academic courses—will remain hidden until:

• The official start date of the semester

• Or after your first in-person class session

Don't panic if your courses aren’t visible right away—they will appear once activated by start date

❗Important Attendance Reminder

Failure to log in, and take the Enrollment attendance quiz in an online course may result in a “No Show” status and removal from the course without a refund.
