About Our Program

The photography program at McDowell Technical Community College offers both a two-year associate degree and a certificate in Photographic Technology.  You can also take individual classes to suit your needs and interests.

Students attending photography school at McDowell Tech benefit from small hands-on classes, currently from four to thirteen students per class, and additional one-on-one time with instructors when needed.

All photography classes are hybrid, meeting once per week with the remainder of the content being offered online.

Students learn digital photography, as well as video using DSLR cameras. The program features a fully equipped studio, Macintosh lab for digital imaging, and a large format Epson 9890 printer for producing exhibition quality work.

Graduates qualify for entry level jobs in the diverse photographic industry. Employment opportunities exist in the following areas: commercial photography, photojournalism, biomedical photography, portrait, photographic equipment sales, photographic laboratories, and imagining technologies.
