Introduction to Cybersecurity

Enroll in our next Cybersecurity course being taught in the Continuing Education Department at McDowell Technical Community College for a comprehensive review of the technologies, processes and practices designed to protect networks, computers, programs and data from attack, damage and unauthorized access. The McDowell County Local Food Advisory Council along with McDowell Technical Community College is hosting the McDowell Candidate Forum on Friday, October 12 at 6 pm in the college auditorium. Candidates for federal, state, and local offices will be represented (Paula Avery, Tony Brown, Josh Dobson, Ralph Hise, Howard Larsen, Phillip Price, Michelle Price, David Walker, David Wheeler, and Brenda Vaughn). Here is a chance to hear the candidates answer questions that are important to our region. A Meet & Greet will be in the lobby before and after the program. This is a nonpartisan event.

YMCA Shelter OPEN

With flooding going on across the county, some roads and bridges have been closed in the last few hours. If you find yourself in need of emergency shelter, please be aware that the YMCA has opened a shelter at their facility on Sugar Hill Road in Marion. We hope that you won't need these services, but if you do, the YMCA has volunteers and staff are standing by to assist you.

Nurse Aide I Class

Our Nurse Aide I class begins in just a few days. This is an 8-week class that runs from October 9th to December 7th, Tuesdays and Thursdays form 8 am to 5 pm and Fridays from 8 am to 12:30 pm. (This is the regular class, not the refresher.) Apply online at www.mcdowelltech.edu/admissions/ or come in person to our Student Services Office for assistance. Then meet with the Health Science Advisor to officially register and attend the Class Orientation on October 2nd at 4 pm in the Dogwood Bldg at 4 pm.

Turkey Trot!

The Wellness Committee is hosting a Turkey Trot Walking Challenge, over the course of 8 weeks beginning Monday, October 1, 2018 – Monday, November 26, 2018 we will be tracking steps walked with a goal of 10,000 steps per day per individual, which equals 560,000 steps over 56 days.

This is different from our Miles for Wellness Challenge in that teams will be assigned randomly based on the number of participants.
