Cross Coordinates Speakers for Alternative Education Center

Over the last few years, Chip Cross, Business Instructor, has been inviting entrepreneurs, business persons, educators and others to speak to his business classes about their backgrounds and what it takes to be successful in business and life. Last year, the Alternative Education Center (AEC-McDowell County Schools) asked Mr. Cross if he could arrange to bring these speakers to the AEC campus, which he did. After a successful first year, Mr. Cross brought a mixture of old and new faces back to AEC last Friday. Look inside for more information on the speakers and their presentations.

Spring Fling: Giving Back to the Community

Spring Fling 2018 is just around the corner on March 20th. We are continuing our 50th Anniversary celebration and our achievement of being ranked second in the state for student success (out of 58 community colleges).

But now it's time to give back to our community. Please help us "pay it forward" with these important Spring Fling collection drives: a dog/cat food drive to help local animal shelters AND a diapers/wipes drive for the McDowell County Department of Social Services. We will advertise a drop-off location for these items during the week of Spring Fling. Every little bit helps, so please take time to make our community a better place for babies, animals, and adults alike!

Fall 2017 Dean's List

Congratulations to the following MTCC students who were named to the President’s, Dean’s and Honors lists for the Fall, 2017 semester at McDowell Technical Community College.

From Regret to Recovery

One of our students, Destin Rickard, helped to film and audio engineer a project last fall to highlight addiction recovery in McDowell County. With the nationwide opioid crisis, as well as ongoing problems with methamphetamines, heroin, alcohol abuse and other substance abuse issues, we thought this would be an excellent time to highlight this video-From Regret to Recovery- and to remind students that there is a path from addiction to "Hope." (Click on the link above to watch the video.) Celebrate Recovery meets locally at East Marion Baptist Church. For more information on the program, call 828-559-2575.
