Student Resource Manual

This Student Resource Manual is your guide through your educational experience here at McDowell Tech. Inside you will find policies, procedures, rules, due dates and other things that you will need to know. You will also find names and number of people who are willing to assist you in any way as well as a calendar that can help you plan each semester.

2016-2017 MTCC Student Resource Manual

Students may apply for financial aid for the 2017/18 academic year beginning October 1, 2016.

Traditionally, the FAFSA filing cycle begins on January 1 of the year preceding the award/academic year...but not this year, the filing process begins earlier...October 1!!!

The student/parent may use income and tax information from the previous calendar year. For example, students applying for the 2016/17 academic year may use 2015 income tax information. No more waiting for your tax return for the new year to be completed!!!

Because of this, most students and/or parents should be able to utilize the IRS Retrieval Tool which transfers tax information directly from the IRS into the FAFSA application. This will allow the Financial Aid Office to award financial aid earlier so the student and/or their family can plan for upcoming college expenses.

Any questions can be directed to the MTCC Financial Aid Office.

MTCC Now Part of Health-e-schools!

McDowell Technical Community College is now a part of Health-e-Schools. This is a program that provides medical care to clients in the place where they spend most of their time - school or work!

Our staff can provide medical care to students/employees, without students/employees missing school or work. This program helps the student/employee stay healthy, decreases school/work absences, and reduces out-of-work, travel, and wait time.

For more information about how we do this, please visit our website at: www.myhealtheschools.org

Certiport Authorized Testing Center

McDowell Technical Community College is proud to announce 58 students earned Microsoft Certification during the 2014-2015 school year. MTCC is a certified Certiport Testing Center currently offering Microsoft Office Certification in the following areas: Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

More than a simple credential, Microsoft Office Specialist certification notifies prospective employers that a certified applicant is prepared to make immediate contributions in the workplace. They will be qualified to meet greater challenges, possessing the knowledge and ability to be more productive and share information in a compelling, intuitive manner.

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics lists Microsoft Office as the second highest skill set required for high-growth/high-wage occupations, with oral and written communication skills being first.

For more information regarding Microsoft Office Certification, please contact Rachel Pearson, Program Advisor for Office Administration, at 652-0658 or rachelpearson@mcdowelltech.edu
