WHY SHOULD I ENROLL IN A TELECOURSE?
A telecourse is convenient and inexpensive. The telecourse provides students with the opportunity to
take a course by using study materials and watching television at home, thus eliminating the scheduling problems or travel
costs often associated with on-campus courses.
WHO DO I CALL IF I HAVE QUESTIONS OR PROBLEMS?
You may call your instructor or Don Ford, Director of Distance Education at (828) 652-0651, or by email,
donf@mail.mcdowell.cc.nc.us.
HOW DO I VIEW THE PROGRAMS?
Telecourses are broadcast over PBS stations, and local cable companies. Check your local cable listing and your distance
learning packet for station listing. In addition, you also have the option of renting the programs from RMI Media. Details of
videotape rental are mentioned in your distance learning packet.
CAN I VIDEOTAPE THE TELEVISION PROGRAMS?
Yes! You are encouraged to videotape the televised programs with your videocassette recorder so you can
review the material at your convenience.
WHAT IF I MISS A PROGRAM?
There are videocassette copies of telecourse programs in the Learning Center in Building 17, Room 103.
Please contact Learing Center staff for an appointment to view any missed programming. The contact number for the Learning Center
is (828) 652-0609.
HOW DO I STUDY FOR EXAMS?
Telecourse students are independent distance learners. Please follow your course syllabus/assignments,
including textbook readings and study guide directions. You must be motivated, self-paced and committed to a telecourse. Students
are encouraged to find a study partner in the class. Please contact your instructor for an appointment if you need assistance.
CAUTION - DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF STUDY MATERIAL, STUDENTS MUST BE DEDICATED TO COMPLETE THE TELECOURSE. BEWARE OF ACADEMIC
OVERLOAD.
WHEN AND WHERE DO I TAKE THE TELECOURSE EXAMS/ASSIGNMENTS?
Your instructor will tell you about testing dates/times at the orientation session. The tests will be
administered in the Learning Center on the first floor in Building 17, Room 103. Please call and set up an appointment to take
an exam at (828) 652-0609. If you have any problems, please contact Don Ford at (828) 652-0651. You may drop off assignments
at the Learning Center, or give them to Don Ford unless other instructions are provided by your instructor.
HOW DO I GET MY TEST SCORES AND FINAL GRADES?
Instructors post grades on a message board in Building 4, or contact you about your grades. You may check test
scores the following week after the exam was taken and review which questions you missed with your instructor by appointment.
MTCC is on a semester system and you will receive your final grade on your transcript when you complete all courses during
the term.
