COMPASS Placement Testing FAQ's

The placement test or sections of the placement test may be waived if you:

  • Submit official ASSET or COMPASS scores taken at another institution within the last three years.
  • Submit an official transcript showing completion of college level English or Math with a grade of 'C' or better within the last five years from an accredited college or university.
  • Submit official proof of SAT Critical Reading score of 480 or above, or ACT English & Reading scores of 19 or above, to waive Reading and Writing portions of the placement test. Scores must be less than three

** Exemptions for testing are not made for applicants seeking admission to the Associate Degree Nursing or the Practical Nursing Programs.

Can I fail the test?

You cannot fail the placement test and it is not an indicator of your intelligence. It is only used to see what you have forgotten or never learned. The test will help us determine if you need to take developmental courses that will help you prepare for college level work.

When can I take the placement test?

The placement test is usually given by appointment. Walk-ins may be accepted if space is available or if time permits, however appointments are highly encouraged. Evening testing is available on Mondays and Tuesdays.
